Welcome!

Pediatric Speech Therapy

Services

Stuttering

Stuttering therapy for children and teens focuses on learning about stuttering, identifying attitudes and beliefs about stuttering, and developing skills to engage in communication with confidence.

Speech

Speech therapy for articulation and phonological disorders combines evidence-based approaches with interactive and fun activities to help your child improve their overall speech clarity.

Literacy

Our approach to literacy is to identify the root cause of the issues (phonological awareness, decoding, encoding, comprehension) and directly teach skills to support those areas.

Meet Martha

Martha Horrocks, MEd, CCC-SLP, is the owner of Martha Speech, LLC and an ASHA-certified Speech-Language Pathologist. Martha has earned three master's degrees - Elementary Education, Special Education, and Speech-Language Pathology. Martha opened Martha Speech and Stuttering Therapy in 2020 to create a place where children will receive the individualized support they need to make the most progress towards their goals.

Clients are central to Martha's approach to providing therapy. By asking open-ended questions, providing opportunities for self-rating and reflection, and implementing activities that allow for choice and integration of interests, her clients feel understood and invested in the process. Martha's empathetic nature allows her clients to feel comfortable and safe exploring their communication strengths and challenges.

Martha loves technology and is passionate about telepractice. Her sessions are innovative and engaging, with interactive activities that help her clients progress towards their goals. She also enjoys the opportunity to collaborate directly with parents and to work with kids in their home setting (via teletherapy).

Martha creates materials for other speech-language pathologists (SLPs) and teachers, which she sells on Teachers Pay Teachers and Boom Learning. She also provides continuing education and training as an invited speaker at events such as XCeptional Ed's Redefining Stuttering Conference and Simple Practice's "Ask the Expert" webinar series.

Martha lives in Portland, Maine, with her husband and their miniature schnauzer, Schatze. When she is not doing all things SLP, she loves to be outside going for walks, hiking, snowshoeing, and sailing!

Meet Martha

"We absolutely loved working with Martha! My son looked forward to his sessions with Martha and while he felt like he was busy playing, Martha was targeting specific speech goals. Being able to work with Martha from any location because of teletherapy was not only helpful but a huge relief for our set of circumstances. Martha was understanding, empathic, encouraging, and effective. My son met his therapy goals working with Martha and was appreciated and celebrated for whom he is as a person while doing so. It was apparent we had an advocate in Martha and we are thankful to have her knowledge and support as we navigate the next steps. I could not recommend Martha Speech more!"
